Tunnels
A film by Jay Hubert
Synopsis:
This is the story of Kazu and Miho, a couple of Korean
descent who face discrimination growing up in Japan. Kazu has a long history of using
violence to deal with this discrimination, but after getting hurt in several
fights and seeing visions of himself traversing a tunnel, he promises Miho he'll
stop fighting. They save up their
money and go to Hawaii for college, where Miho excels in her
painting and Kazu in soccer. They
settle into a steady rhythm, and even though money is tight, they are finally
happy and seem to have escaped their problems back in Japan. Kazu's biggest problem now is figuring
out how to pop the big question to Miho.
But just when it looks like the fairy-tale ending is right around the
corner, past discrimination returns to plague the couple. Can Kazu learn to live with this, or
will he revert to the violent ways of his past?
One-liner:
A beautiful couple, a fairy-tale life in paradise, and
all their problems left behind in Japan... or so they
thought.
