Synopsis Steve Ma`i`i is a documentary that
covers some of the life and times of Hawaiian musician Steve Ma`i`i. The
director of the film happens to be the son of Steve Ma`i`i. As a boy, the
director would hear these fascinating stories about his father, but the stories
were never told by his father but by others. Stories of playing music throughout
Vietnam, stories of drugs, sex and alcohol, the life of a musician, and stories
of a Hawaiian revolution, the director tried to fulfill his childhood
curiosities by the making of this documentary. Although Steve Ma`i`i still
managed to elude some of the stories that the director hoped to shoot, the
subject did open up to a lot of subjects for the first that are priceless that
the director could just drown in. It is still an amazement to the director the
small levels of recognition of this documentary, thinking that this would simply
be just be a fancy home video. Never the less the piece is warm and is has given
the Ma`i`i family a lot of joy. |
